Buying Guide - Wheelchair Upholstery |

Replacing wheelchair upholstery is one of the easiest things you can do to improve the look and comfort of your chair. All of the upholstery is replaceable including the seat, the back, armpads, and calf pads. For seats and backs, we have most sizes available and a custom size program to make the sizes we don't have. Here are some tips to make the ordering process smooth: |

For seats & backs, note what material it is - Vinyl or nylon are the most common types of material.

Seats & backs size? You will need the width of the seat (or back) and the depth of the seat (or height of the back). Make sure the chair is completely open before measuring and measure only the upholstery from edge to edge.

Measure the eyelet spacing - For vinyl upholstery, measure the eyelet spacing from the front of the seat to the center of the first eyelet, then from the center of the first eyelet to the center of the second eyelet, and so on. For backs, it's the same process execpt from the top.

Upholstery color? For nylon the color is black. Most vinyl sizes have an option of four colors (see color chart below). Nylon, plastic, and urethane arm pads are black only.

Armpad material? Most of them are either hard plastic, nylon, vinyl, or solid urethane.

Armpad size? Usually stated as either desk length or full length. You will need the hole spacing on the back of the arm pad to know which one to order. Most of them take two or three screws to remove so you may want to do that to make it easier to measure. Re-install when finished measuring so you can use the existing one as a guide later on when installing the new one. See example below.

Calf pad? We carry a universal one that fits most elevating leg rests and is available in black only.

| Measuring Hole Spacing On An Arm Pad |
|

All you need is hole spacing. Measure between the two closest holes, the middle holes, and the outside holes. You may not have three sets of holes - as long as the replacement has a set that will fit your hole pattern on the chair. |

If you dont find the seat or back size you are looking for, we offer custom sized upholstery. All jobs are quoted off dimensions provided by you and are not returnable. | Installation |

The best way to install new upholstery is to wait until the new upholstery has arrived and note how the existing one is intalled before you start. Make sure the upholstery is facing the right direction. Use new hardware whenever new hardware is supplied. If the seat or back is a tight fit at first, fold the chair up a little to narrow the gap, attach the upholstery, then gently push the chair apart to stretch. Note only do this if the upholstery is close in dimension. If you see the upholstery is not even close, you have the wrong size.
Armpads and calf pads are just a matter of a couple of screws. It may help to leave the old one in place until you are ready as you can see which holes were used.
